I grew up in the state of Oregon where there are no periodic cicadas, so it was a real treat. I'll never forget my sons' delight as they found cicadas EVERYWHERE, and brought not a few home. We decided that they definitely looked like aliens and must have arrived on earth from a planet with a 17-year solar cycle.
